1. Law Commission: Pg 11

Relevance: The existence of institutions like Khaps are not just the proof of lackadaisical law and order mechanism in our country but also a matter of national shame.

Clue: Do you know about the uniform civil code? Know about sarla mudgal judgement, lexi loci act, hindu marriage act 1955, shah bano case etc. Source is again IYB (Ch 20 : Justice and Law). Also know about the Law commission of India, Justice PV Reddy, M C Setalwad etc.

2. Olive Ridley : Pg 11

Clue: Know about the endangered and critically endangered species in India as per IUCN’s Red List and steps taken by India to conserve them. This month’s Civil service times magazine could be really helpful for topics related to Environment, biodiversity etc.

3. Vulture : Pg 11

Relevance: Already asked in this year’s mains.

Clue: Go through IYB/net to know about steps taken to conserve them like Action plan, breeding centers being established, Bombay natural history society survey, varieties which are critically endangered, diclofenac etc.

4. Mullaperiyar: Pg 15

Relevance : Water disputes in India, Dams Safety.

Clue: Mark the dam site, Periyar river,Idukki district etc. on map. Know about the rivers in Kerala (NCERT : XIth) particularly west flowing, major water disputes in India (IYB), Art 262, National Water Council etc.

5. Statehood Himachal Pradesh: Pg7

Relevance: In light of Telangana Movement or otherwise it’s important to know the year of formation of major states for eg  AP (1953), Gujarat-Maharsahtra(1960), Haryana (1966), Himachal (1970) etc. Please note Chattisgarh< Uttrakhand< Jharkhand(latest). Refer any polity book.

6. Navy: pg13

Relevance: Defence preparednes, coastal security, Indo Russia relations etc.

Clue: Know about Indo Russia defence relations, Friendship Treaty 1971 etc. Any coaching material would suffice. Write snippets about Akula submarine, INS Chakra, INS Vikramaditya, INS Arihant, INS Vikrant, INS Viraat, Scorpene submarine, MIG, Sukhoi, INDRA.

7. RBI: pg 17

Relevance: Update yourself on economic front.

Clue: Monetary policy includes many things like LAF( liquidity adjustment facility), OMO (open market operations), CRR, SLR, MSS (market stabilization scheme), narrow money, broad money etc. Just make sure you know them.

8. Will ease liquidity: pg17

Clue: R V Kanoria, B Muthuraman, Chandrajit Bannerjee, Dilip Modi are potential 2 markers.

9. Cotton exports: pg18

Relevance: The issue of relaxing export quota of cotton was in news throughout the year.

Clue: Just go through the major cotton producing areas, development of cotton industry in India and its export pricing mechanism. For first two sub topics you can refer NCERT Geography.

10. Other 2 markers: Sukumar Azhikode (Pg 11), Kuldip Nayar (Pg 9), Boko Haram(Pg 12), Strait of Hormuz (pg 13), Pratip Chaudhary( pg 17), Yingluck Sinawatra(pg 14).
