Relevance: Keep updating yourself on the ongoing trade talks between both the neighbors. Important decisions so far includes a new liberal visa regime, Pak’s in principle agreement for providing the MFN status to India, opening of new gate and an integrated check post at Wagah, new trading posts in Rajasthan etc.

2. A level playing field: Pg8

Relevance: A good read on the problems and prospectus of aviation industry. Two major decisions have been taken recently. Know about them.

3. Greek bailouts: Pg8

Relevance: Know about the recent efforts undertaken to revive the Greek economy.

i. proposed 130billion euro package by EU-IMF

ii. various austerity measures taken by Greece like wages cut, pension cuts etc.

iii. heavy privatization to be taken up in the coming fiscal

iv.nationalization of banks proposed

4. Iran issue: Pg9

Relevance: An excellent article written in such a lucid language.

Know about the Six day war, Yom kippur war, 1973 oil crisis, OPEC( all 12 members and HQ), GCC( all 6 members and HQ), Strait of Hormuz etc.

5. Turning off the tap: Pg9

Relevance: Read only the introductory and the concluding paragraphs to get an idea. Overall the article is a critique to the draft Water Policy.

Know about the draft policy in general, its approach and also the criticisms made by various NGOs etc.

6. Iran unveils: Pg13

Relevance: An important advancement on the Iranian issue. Look for Busher, Natanz, P5+1, Strait of Hormuz, Bandar Abbas, Chabbar ports  etc.

Do you know where is the Strait of Tiran?

7. Month after border: Pg13

Relevance: Know about the history of Indo-China border dispute, 1912 agreement, 1907 Anglo-Russia treaty, Johnson line, McMohan line, 1963 Sino-Pak treaty, 15th round of border talks etc.

8. Telecom licenses:

Relevance: A good read on the proposed New Telecom policy.

What do you understand by the term “Unified Licenses”? How the new regime is different from the old one? (if you know it exactly, plz explain in the comments section 🙂 )

9. Centre to miss disinvestment:

Relevance: A good read on the issue of disinvestment.

Clue: Know about the Disinvestment policy 1992, Rangarajan Committe, GV Krishnamurthi committee, BRPSE, National Investment Fund 2005, last year’s disinvestment of CIL, PGCIL etc.

Do you know the difference between an IPO and a FPO?

10. 300 killed: Pg13

Relevance: A tragic mishap. Look Honduras, Tegucigalpa, Central America on the world map.

Many times such incidents happen and we people start looking for the factual information important for the exam without concerning much about the gravity of situations. It’s sad.

Any way do you know where the term Banana Republic came from?

11. Other potential 2 markers: Justice AS Anand committe(Pg 7), Alon Usphiz(Pg 11), Xi Jinping(Pg 13), Plank Mission(Pg 15).
