Relevance: Some really interesting facts. These kind of stuff really helps while writing an Essay, try to remember 2-3 important ones.

3. India keen on larger: Pg11

Relevance: Prepare your general literature on the India Afghanistan relations. It must include the strategic partnership signed last year, India’s development aid, construction of Zalaranj Delaram highway, proposed central asia routes through Heraat and Mazaar e Shrif, Hajigak mines issue, Bamiyan Buddha, training of Afghan police, Indira Gandhi hospital in Kabul, India’s stand in London and Bonn conferences, implications of USA’s Afpak policy on the region, SAARC etc.

Also look a bit in the past like India’s support for the Nezbollah govt, our historic and cultural linkages with Afghan people, Silk Route, influence of Babur and Mughals, Sher Shah Suri etc.

By the way who are Hazaras?

4. The ABCs of RTE: Pg12

Relevance: A good read. Compare the average schooling years in India(5.12 years) with that of China(>8), Brazil(7.5) etc. Know about the issues involved in the implementation of RTE.

Clue: Look for the Art 21(A), Art 45 and Art 51A(k) of the constitution.

Do you know that after the enactment of RTE we have a total of 11 Fundamental Duties, try to remember all.

5. A historic move (Pg13), MNCs fear (Pg17)

Relevance: It’s a landmark decision having socio economic implications. Know about the concept of compulsory licensing and the Patents Act 1970. Keywords to delve upon are Nexavar, Sorafenib Tosylate, Natco Pharma, Generic Drugs, Patent Act 1970, 2005 amendment, TRIPS, TRIPS Plus and concept of Evergreening etc.

6. For a new highway: Pg13

Relevance: A good read on the prospectus of further deepening of Indo Brazil Relations.

7. Shale gas policy: Pg17

Relevance: Shale gas is a natural gas produced from Shale (a sedimentary rock). It is one of the unconventional sources of natural gas along with the Coal bedded Methane(CBM) and the Methane Hydrates.

Clue: Read more about this new and exciting source of energy, major shale areas in India like Cambay Basin, KG Basin, Gondwana and Cauvery basin, India’s agreement over knowledge sharing with the US Geological survey , GHG emissions from shale, recent ONGC’s discovery in Durgapur, problem with NELP (since it has no separate provision for shale gas), probable disadvantages of shale gas etc.

Similarly prepare CBM and gas hydrates too.

8. Pradhan mantri adarsh gram yojana : Pg22

Relevance: An important initiative targeting the holistic development of SC ST dominated regions having the potential of creating ground level infrastructure like Mandis, health clinics, broadband centres etc.

9. Other potential 2 markers and tidbits: Chamei devi award(Pg3), Amarkant(Pg9), Bandhavgarh tiger reserve(Pg9), EMERGE platform(Pg17), Kiran Mazumdar Shaw(Pg18), Some F1 legends: Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebestian Vettel, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Team Red Bull, Mclaren(Pg20), Sri Sri Ravi Shankar(Pg22).
