The Hindu: 21st March 2012, Wednesday

1. World Forestry Day: Pg5

Clue: Know about the major forestry related institutions in India like Forest Research Institute, Indian Council of Forestry research and education, Indian Institute of Forestry Management etc. Mark their locations too.

Do you know the difference between a protected forest and a reserved forest?

Also know about the Joint Forest Management approach, Forest Policy 1988, important forests like Shola, Assam, concept of social forestry, agro forestry etc.

2. No budgeting: Pg12

Relevance: A good read but nothing much to write except the fact that India has 0.9 hospital beds per thousand compared to the global average of 2.9

3. Inequality has gone up: Pg16

Relevance: The great Indian poverty debate continues to haunt the government while at the same time keeps the common man annoyed and perplexed. This should help in understanding the entire issue:

4. Other potential 2 markers and tidbits: Era Sezhiyan(Pg12), Tiger reserves mentioned like Panna, kanha, Bandhavgarh etc(Pg22).

I found only these items useful in Wednesday’s paper. If you could spot some thing more which is relevant to CSE please feel free to post in comments section.
