Relevance: We have already discussed the prospectus of India Qatar relations yesterday, keep revising your notes.

3. Spreading its wings: Pg8

Relevance: Some of the key issues discussed in the recently concluded Phnom Penh visit of ASEAN are:

–>increasing participation with global institutions like World bank, IMF etc

–>ASEAN hailed the return of democratic elements in Myanmar

–>North Korea issue and resumption of six party talks

–>South china sea dispute

Clue: Also know about the ASEAN’s 10 member nations, ASEAN way, Treaty of Amity and cooperation(TAC), ASEAN+3, East Asia Summit, ARF, Cebu declaration, Bangkok treaty, Declaration on the conduct of parties agreement over South china sea dispute, ASEAN-India FTA, SAARC v/s ASEAN i.e how SAARC can learn from ASEAN to emerge as a powerful regional bloc etc.

4. Delhi could be: Pg8

Relevance: A good read though nothing much to write.

5. India-Pakistan: Pg12

Relevance: India- Pak trade relations.

6. More banks can: Pg12

Relevance: Know about the RTGS, NEGS systems of online payments, National Payment corporation of India, concept of Core Banking solutions(CBS), Damodaran committee recommendations, KYC norms etc.

7. Vector borne diseases: Pg18

Relevance: In this context, know about the National Vector Borne disease control programme which is a nodal scheme to control vector borne diseases like Dengue, JE, chikungunya etc.

Also, know about the carrier vectors, mode of transmission, vaccines etc of these diseases. Japanese Encephalitis is particularly important because of the recent outbreak in Bihar.

8. Kisan call centres: Pg18

Relevance: Know all the  important modernisation steps taken like initialization of voice mail system, SMS replies etc. It can be asked as a 5 marker in mains.

9. Other potential 2 markers and tidbits: Barefoot College, Tilonia and Bunker Roy(Pg4), Pt. Jasraj(Pg5), Punggye ri test site, Unha-3, Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong un, Kim Jong il (Pg11), M K Gupta committee on GST(Pg12), Phaneesh Murthy and the famous igate-Patni merger(Pg12), Idi Amin(Pg14), Amrita Shergill, Sandor Csoma, Asiatic Society of Bengal (1784)and Sir William Jones (Pg18).
