Relevance: An important development towards restoring peace and constitutionalism in Nepal.

Know about the constitutional deadlock in Nepal, the basic issues involved like integration of maoist combatants in army, proposed rehabilitation package, five point deal signed in 2011, historic Seven party alliance signed in 2005, question on federal structure, people like Prachanda, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai, Jhalanath Kanal, GP Koirala etc. Also know about the major political parties like CPN(M), CPN(UML), NC, Madhesis etc.and the role India can play in ensuring peace and stability in the Himalayan nation.

2. 14 Innovation universities: Pg5

Clue: Know about the concept of ‘inclusive innovation’, innovation universities, National and State Innovation Councils, India Inclusive Innovation fund, Decade of Innovation, Global Innovation Index, 5 pillars of innovation given by INSEAD, National Knowledge Network, INSPIRE programme of Dept of S&T, Innovation Intensity(i.e. the percentage of revenue derived from products/services which are less than 3 years old) etc.

3. Crime and punishment: Pg7

Relevance: According to the 2001 census there are about 12.6 million child labors in India out of which 12 lakh works in the ‘hazardous’ occupations. This an important fact.

5. RIC to debate: Pg10

Relevance: RIC ministers meet is an emerging platform for holding key discussions on wide ranging issues varying from trade to the global political developments. Try to relate it with yesterday’s article(http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/lead/article3297589.ece) on the prospectus of BRICS as a counter to the West.

6. Press council: Pg11

Relevance: ‘Role of media and the extent of regulation is the theme of the ongoing debate. Read as much literature as possible on this issue which can be asked in mains, both in GS and optionals like Pub Ad.

Clue: Know about the constitutional status of media, interpretation of Art 21 in Maneka Gandhi, AK Gopalan case, Ar 191(a) v/s Art21 debate, role of Press Council of India etc.

In the above article there is a mention of ‘Vishaka Guidenlines’, do you know about this important case of Vishaka v/s State of Rajasthan in the context of sexual harassment of women at work places?

Also, do you know about the Justice A N Ray and the infamous ADM Jabalpur v/s Shivkant Shukla case (Habeas Corpus case)?

Relevance: Keep updating yourself on the Mali crisis.

8. Sibal launches: Pg14

Clue: Clue: Prepare a general literature on the evolution of mobile telephony from 1G to 4G, EDGE, VSAT, GPRS, HSDPA, LTE etc.

9. Other potential 2 markers and tidbits: Operation Greenhunt(Pg3), Sahel region in Africa(Pg9), Diancounda Trioare(Pg12),Differences between Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram, Janani Suraksha Yojana and Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana(Pg18), Nag missile(Pg18).
